Memorial Day

For five years I had the honor to work as a contractor for the Army Reserve.  Being a Reservist, especially now,  is one of the most difficult jobs there is.  As a Reservist, you are called a double citizen. A Hotbed of Coals

Imagine a campfire that has burned off all the dry wood that was roaring there an hour before.  What’s left is a hotbed of coals.  After a while they stop glowing.  Without any evidence of a flame, it is easy to believe that the fire has gone out but this mistake is often what causes forest fires.  Even though there is no visible red glow anymore, the coals are still dangerously hot.  All it would take is a few dry leaves to drop on these coals and then…whoosh; the fire could ignite again and spread. Lessons From My Father

My father, Eugene O. Goldstein, MD, will be turning 92 this summer.  Today, my wife and children and my brother are all flying to San Diego to visit my sister and her family for a family reunion.  My Dad and stepmom will be meeting us there.  My father is a source of constant inspiration to me and has given me a blue print for how to live a long and happy life.  They say that children learn what they live so here is what I have learned from how he lived his life and continues to live it. 1.
